Just a little over two months ago, I had not even heard of this legendary singer. And a couple of days ago, I was heartbroken to know she had passed away.
Singer Connie Francis who regained popularity in the last few months, due to one of her songs “Pretty Little Baby” going viral on Tik Tok and Instagram, passed away at the age of 87 years on 16th July 2025.
Atleast there is some solace of her witnessing one of her songs Pretty Little Baby get fame & popularity 63 years after its release!!
Upon hearing the news, I could not resist listening to the track, and played it on loop. She has such a unique, charming, magnetic voice!
My favourite part of the song is “I’m hoping that you dooooooooo…” in the beginning, and then this verse :
“Meet me at the car hop,
or at the pop shop..
Meet me in the moonlight,
or in the daylight..”
I just love the way she says “pop shop” !! 🙂

Turns out that this was supposed to be a forgotten track and was sung in the hope of healing a bad relationship. I just knew that there was some reality to this song!
Ironically, though she had touched millions of hearts all through her singing career, by her sweet & melodious voice, there was a dark side to Connie Francis’s life.
In 1967, one of her dearest friends was tragically murdered in her own home, and later that year, Francis underwent a cosmetic procedure intended to refine her nose, which unfortunately impaired her singing voice.
She was brutally raped & assaulted at knife-point on Nov 8th, 1974 when she was at a motel in Long Island, soon after appearing at the Westbury Music Fair.
Her brother was shot to death by two gunmen in 1981.
Inspite of these tragedies, she did return to singing & performing and continued to do so for a long time. She was also an advocate of mental health, and she has known to have been admitted for bipolar disorder a few times in her life.
She is survived by her son Joseph Garzilli Jr.
I can’t get over how graceful she was : https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Hsa3Wb-XBWQ
And this is (what seems like) the original video of the song:
May her soul rest in peace !!
