With Bollywood films seeing a slow decline, it is interesting to see how Bollywood’s musical charm has also undergone a noticeable decline, with remixes and repetitive tunes dominating the mainstream (Borrring!) Meanwhile, music from OTT platforms has quietly risen in popularity – offering fresh, original, and often rustic compositions that feel more authentic and rooted in real emotions!
These tracks explore diverse narratives and sounds, resonating more deeply with today’s audiences seeking honesty over hype. In short, the music is just as original as the screenplay, scripts et al!
Let’s discuss the most underrated production house of today – The Viral Fever or TVF, as it’s more commonly referred to. It’s one of the OG OTT production houses. Their earliest series Permanent Roommates had taken the Indian web sphere by storm! And then they just never stopped. Be it Tripling, Kota Factory or Gullak, they delivered one hit after another!
Masterpieces like Aspirants and Panchayat produced music that was equally liked & received by the audience as much as the shows were. Presenting three of my favourite tracks, the last one being my favourite – something that had been on my playlist alll along as I was waiting for the show’s new season 🙂 And now that it’s released, I am devouring it!!! It’s the best thing that has happened in the Indian series landscape – across both television and web platforms. Do you agree? 🙂
#1 "Mohbhang Khuda" - Aspirants
Shout out to my friend Rohit Sharma – the composer AND singer for this track !!! This was on loop for a long time after it was released. And biases aside, I really do prefer the male version 🙂 Though the female version Mohbhang Piya is also pretty popular, and you should check that out too.
#2 "Paracetamol" - Panchayat
Beedi Jalaile feels but contemporary, fresh and just.. better?!!
#3 "Hind ke Sitara" - Panchayat
I refer to this one as the “Rajaji” song because that’s what I remember! 😀 And that’s the part that trends on Instagram Reels too and so it’s drilled in the brain that way. I love everything about this – the dholak sound, the harmonium, the local language & rhythm and the witty lyrics.. So rooted yet contemporary! This deserves more appreciation than it gets IMO.
